In early 2026 NSC took delivery of new water tender 4490, which replaced our previous tender 4490, a venerable 1986 vehicle that was overdue for retirement. The tender was custom built for NSC by Truckworks of Arizona. It carries 2,000 gallons of water and is sized appropriately to be able to navigate almost all of our roads. 4490 is expected to serve the department for several decades.

In May the department held a “push-in” ceremony to officially put new 4490 into service. At the push-in we thank those who helped make the engine a reality, bless the engine, spray it with water and then as a team dry it off, and manually push it back into the bay where it will respond from. This is a long-standing fire department tradition recalling the earliest fire engines that were horse-drawn and had to be pushed back into their stations by the fire crews.

Please see the gallery below for photos of the push-in ceremony. Thank you to Craig Tooley for the photographs and for capturing a fun video of the group drying off 4490 and pushing it into its new home!
